Happy Halloween!

FF_2009 is now rendering

Hilary, Devon, myself and possibly Tony are going to a session in NY today. It'll be a good mix up of old school and new school kids in attendance.

Possibly Devon, Hilary and I will film and edit a sampler of the night. I'm sure we'll have a good amount of material to edit.

Anyways, enjoy your weekend regardless of what you may be doing. Have fun!

Qucik rej~

I went to the Trickadelphia session that just went down. Hilary filmed and I edited this one. Also I got to spend time with a good friend of mine from high school (Loc Lam), and there were a lot of "old school" trickers at the gathering. So this gathering was great for me!

ffEdit_Trickadelphia from Jaime Colon on Vimeo.

Also I talked with Steve from WCG. It seems like I can go in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to train. I'll talk with him about a time slot where we can train together, possibly on Saturday or Sunday. That, my friends is good news!

Stumbled upon this today...

Anders Sandberg / asa@nada.kth.se

http://www.aleph.se/Trans/Individual/Mental/rules.html

Mental Heuristics

A heuristic is a "rule-of-thumb", advice that helps an AI program or human think and act more efficiently by directing thinking in an useful direction.

Some of these heuristics are age-old wisdom, bordering on cliche, but most are actually helpful.

If you want something done, do it yourself

Comment: Obviously true, and doing it is usually very good for your self esteem. A surprising amount of work can be done this way, and experts are not always necessary. However, there is a risk of becoming overworked if you try to do everything yourself - we all need other people after all.

Never procrastinate anything you can do right now

Comment: Very powerful. There are many things that can be fixed or solved with a minimum of effort, but are often pushed aside as unimportant. Unfortunately they won't go away, and in time the feelings of guilt for not having done them will make you even less likely of fixing the problems.

When you have several things you could be doing and don't know which to do: Just do any one of them!

Comments: If you cannot decide between two or more possibilities, then there is a good chance that the differences don't matter. However, most people begin to hesitate in this kind of situation (Fredkin's paradox). If you are conscious of this, you can just choose one choice randomly or according to some standard method.

Always assume that you will succeed

Comments: If you don't expect to succeed in an endeavor, then you will not do your best and will not notice possible solutions, while if you feel that you will eventually succeed you will concentrate all your power at the problem. Of course, there is no point in attempting what you cannot do, a certain amount of self-knowledge is always needed.

If you can't find a solution, change the rules.

Comment: Remember that there are no no-win scenarios.

If you cannot do anything about something, there is no point in worrying about it.

Comment: Worrying is stressful, and in most situations doesn't accomplish anything - it just wastes energy. Instead of worrying about things, either do something about them or find ways around the problem. One useful idea is to write down your worries on slips of paper, and then put them away in a box. Regularly, once a week or so, you open the box and see what you can do about the worries that are still relevant.

Do not rely on conscious decisions for speed - Just Do It

Comments: The conscious mind is surprisingly slow, conscious choices and actions are delayed for a significant time (a reflex acts within some tens of milliseconds, an unconscious reaction to external stimuli circa 100 milliseconds and a conscious choice several seconds). The duty of the conscious mind is usually to inhibit rather than start action, and if you become too conscious of what you are doing in a tense situation you will hesitate or slow down.

It is a good idea to learn to rely on your non-conscious mind, since our conscious mind is slow and has very low bandwidth while the other systems in our brains have a tremendous capacity and actually do most of the real work anyway.

Don't try to explain away your actions for yourself

Comment: While we often do things we do not want to explain our real motivations for before other people (out of fear of embarrassment, anger or loss of image), it is a bad idea to try to convince oneself that the motivation was anything different from what it was. It will only reduce your self-knowledge with deliberate misinformation, and it is often valuable to understand what motivations you have (even if you dislike them or would never admit them in public).

Listen to your intuition, but do not believe it unconditionally

Comments: Intuitive or emotional thinking, analogies, "gut feelings" or "flashes of inspiration" can sometimes give fantastic new insights or show problems from a new direction. Unfortunately such thinking isn't always reliable, and quite often completely wrong! Such insights should never be accepted because you admire their beauty or they are intuitive, only because they fit with reality.

Work

This week was great! We successfully hosted the Strickingz guys at my place, we tricked and hung out all week! We got a chance to relax over Christian's a little bit. We went swimming over his place and ate like, tons of food. We also messed with his weird webcam thing on his computer and took hilarious pictures. Hopefully those will be posted in time.
Currently Strickingz are over Devon's house in Heath, MA. If you'd like to hang out or train with FF and Strikingz make an effort to contact Devon. Best way I'd imagine would be through TT or the tagboard on the side of this site. Maybe facebook would be another good option.

But all that aside I'll be back to work on Monday. I also have tons of projects I'm working on.
Site maintenence
video tutorials
Andy R (elim) sampler
FF and Strikingz sampler from this week
Devon is also working on a video project. It'll be pretty epic in nature. And with all THAT aside I'm trying to read a certain book and get back on my regular training regimen. So I'm pretty busy. Everything will be posted with time but please be patient...

YO!

This week is trick week you guys!
I don't have to work and strickingz will be at my house all week. Its also possible my good buddy James Yu (Crazyasian) will be around for a little while too. I plan on really beefing up the site, taking loads of pictures, making a trick sampler with the team and friends and just hanging out and having a great time all week!
Maybe we should go to beaches, and swimming pools, fields, dojos, and gymnastic centers. Nightly we should play xbox360 at my house. (but you must control your volume level because Hilary still has to work this week. chill with the yelling...)

Im sure we'll have a great week. If you want to get involved and help with session planning (or offer ideas for session locations and times) post the basics on the tagboard and I'll work on it. Check the website at least once a day, and usually at night before bed to stay updated.

Im free all week so either post on the tagboard or call me if you wanna hang out.

And I might be downgrading the server so we'll just use youtube/vimeo for our videos and like photobucket and blogger for images.

Things that rhyme with orange..

Door Hinge././. But here's some stuff for you to read.

Sonic Youth's new album is called The Eternal and i just bought it, as well. It's eerie, as Sonic Youth has always been, and really fucking good. i was worried that they might not be able to pull off another good full length album but it has to be among their best and i'm impressed and glad. Perfect amount of noise and guitar, and the lyrics are simple enough to remember but unique enough to make you daydream. female & male vocals is always a plus too. if you aren't a sonic youth fan yet this is a good place to start. Buy it.

The Mars Volta's new album is called Octahedron and is Omar's idea of an acoustic album, even though electric guitars, synthesizers, and drum machines are used throughout. It's much easier to listen to than their previous records and focuses mainly on Cedric's droning and nut-grabbing vocals. The only common theme i can pick out is one of mourning and homicide, probably referring to the drug cartels in mexico overriding the federales and murdering innocent people. "Let the wheels burn, Let the wheels burn. Stack the tires to the neck with a body inside," is the chorus to one of my favorite tracks on the album, "Teflon". At worst, I've heard the album described as "it sounds as if taking back sunday were actually talented," which isn't even much of an insult. Personally, i dig it. even though there isn't much depth to it and you might not be able to listen to it as many times as your other Mars Volta records, you'll still find it haunting and intriguing. Buy it

Also---____--- Hocine, Amar, and Adrien are coming to the east coast on Thursday. They're looking to train, visit New York City, and enjoy themselves. I think they like ladies too. Anyone who is willing to transport, house, feed, trick with, fuck, or help out these friends of ours in any way, Please message Hocine on facebook, contact him on TT, and if need be, just let me know and I'll relay the message. Unfortunately Jaime, Devon, and I are pretty busy through the end of the summer and into Autumn, and they're looking to stay for a month, so we can't do as much as we'd like to help them and spend time with them. But anyone who checks the site and is down with FF and StrikingZ & wants to help, well.... it would be much appreciated.

ALSOALSO, if anyone is going to San Francisco's Outside Lands Festival at the end of August. . . Bring me :)

Justin, let's hang.

  • Mind uploading is the concept of transference of consciousness from a human brain to an alternative medium providing the same functionality. Assuming the process to be possible and repeatable, this would provide immortality to the consciousness, as predicted by futurists such as Ray Kurzweil.[8]

Mind-to-computer uploading

One idea that has been advanced involves uploading an individual's personality and memories via direct mind-computer interface. The individuals memory may be loaded to a computer or to a newly born babies mind. The baby will then grow with previous persons individuality and may not develop his own personality.[who?] Extropian futurists like Moravec and Kurzweil have proposed that, thanks to exponentially growing computing power, it will someday be possible to upload human consciousness onto a computer system, and live indefinitely in a virtual environment. This could be accomplished via advanced cybernetics, where computer hardware would initially be installed in the brain to help sort memory or accelerate thought processes. Components would be added gradually until the person's entire brain functions were handled by artificial devices, avoiding sharp transitions that would lead to issues of identity. After this point, the human body could be treated as an optional accessory and the mind could be transferred to any sufficiently powerful computer. Persons in this state would then be essentially immortal, short of loss or traumatic destruction of the machines that maintained them.

OH YES!

I tricked yesterday, and it was great! I came back from my illness, with the sickness. THAT is a good play on words yes? Or no, well anyhow I filmed a lot of good things yesterday. I thought I was going to be fatigued because I was sick for about 8 days. I went to the doctor to get my right knee, ankle and wrist checked out. I thought maybe I had a fracture in my wrist and ankle but I'm ok I guess. A mild sprain in my ankle (well mild now, but not a few months ago), a sprained wrist (from punching a bag too hard about a month ago) and my knee is pretty swollen. I can just ice it all and take pain relievers. I'm fine...

Hilary and I are doing good so far with our opposite schedules.
We beat Assassins Creed, and Mirrors Edge for 360. We saw Wolverine, Star Trek and Angels and Demons recently.
Wolverine was ok, and so was Star Trek, I had really high expectations though. Angels and Demons was really well made and it was very suspenseful. The plot reminded me a lot of the plot in Watchmen.

Friday, May 08, 2009

Yo folks...

So yeah I've still been pretty distant from you guys. I'm sorry...
I'm going back to 2nd shift at work. =(
I'll be working 12-830 pm for awhile, then I'll be doing 330-12am shortly afterward.
Hilary and I are working on, making it work out. She still works 1st shift (7-4pm). We figure we'll have more personal time during the week and we'll enjoy our weekends together a little more. I hope this is true and remains true for however long this may be.
Also we're moving back to Springfield at the end of this month. We'll be living in her parents house, because her parents are moving to Texas and we'll get the Springfield house.
=)

As far as training:

Yeah I've been pretty much going two solid good weeks of training and conditioning then I hit a point where I get sick and fatigued and I loose interest. I make some serious gains in those two weeks then I stale out.
Then after a week, I get back at it again.

What I can say is overall I'm happy with my progress but it's not worthy of my expectations I have for my next sampler. I will not show you guys the goods until I'm there.
I want it to showcase my skills as a tricker who has been around through the different generations of tricking.
;)

OMG!

It hasn't fully set in yet, but I am totally amazed at this video project Devon! It's perfect in all ways! Great music and great shots! You've got good camera angles in relation to the, uh, lighting.
A truly epic video, and inspiring! I'm looking forward to working with you on our next project. Which we'll begin working on this weekend.
=)

It may have seemed like I've been doing nothing but I've made some gains myself. I'll edit a short sampler so you guys can get a small idea of what I've been doing. But Devon, damn kid you've done it! I'm totally pumped for teh future, which is now! Now is the future you know, we will make an awesome video anyways!

See you soon man, and um... I want the HD downloadable version so I can watch on my TV repeatedly!

Happy Easter! Happy Resurrection day if you're Christian...

Updating the members page

Well I was thinking we should all write a little blurb about ourselves for the members page and send Jaime a photo of ourselves, as well as take some new team photos! I don't know what you guys had in mind, but maybe write a little about how you got into tricking, what it means to you, how you met the team, music that you like, location, aspirations, Things you like besides tricking, your birth date, I dunno- anything interesting about you that lets people know who you are! what do you guys think?

lil' Session

Friday night. contact me the Devon.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

hey

Hey guys, it's been a while Sorry for being so hard to get in touch with lately. I was in Colorado during February break and i went to a hardcore show the weekend i got back so i didn't train with you guys that night. the following wednesday was my birthday and i woke up with a fever and the flu so i was out of school for 3 and a half days with that and sick for 8 days. i didn't do anything but sleep and shit i was pretty out of it. after that i had hella work and tests to make up in all of my lame classes so i was occupied with that until about last tuesday. I haven't trained at all since i last saw you guys, i think it was at the rempfer session. other than school work i've been taking an SAT preparatory class that sucks. so all in all school has basically been "Snakin' my cakes" as devon put it. Other than fatigue i've been feeling a lot better, although i have seasonal affect disorder so all this up and down whether has been taking a toll on me mentally.. im ready for some chronic sunshine. I'm really sorry to have kept you all in the dark for this long with regards to my whereabouts and shit, especially Jaime & Devon. with any extra time i've had i've just been playing guitar as usual and skating when it's nice enough out. Anyway that's the news with me, Hope to trick with you all soon. I'm feeling good that everyone seems pretty active and optimistic about the team (again, mainly Jaime & Devon--> you guys are keeping me excited about it). Later~

Saturday, March 14, 2009

YEAH...

So here it is. Mind you this isn't creative at all. It's a standard text I downloaded. All I have to do is type an "F" and it automatically creates this logo.

I've waited so long because I want to do something creative with this, but here is for very feverish beings...

new shirts, version 1 and 2

and here's the link to the text file:
teh text file
(first one at the top)

DEVON!

You have a video report due by the 14th of April. You must incorporate all current active members of the team in a video presentation that highlights all the strengths and weaknesses of the group. There are not any limitations or requirements really. Just that it be very innovative and interesting. Use your network wisely! Connect with friends, carpool to sessions, make this report happen!
The only acceptable formats I'll be taking are mpeg2, and WMV.
WMV settings are:
image quality, 100 percent
bit rate, 10mbps
1440X1080
deinterlace

Do not ask for help from me, by now I'm sure you can do everything I can do and more as far as tricks and editing goes. I want to see something similar but different. Use your skills to motivate and inspire the team to do as you wish. Make them want to make this happen! Surprise me with your edit!

...side notes:
try to connect with rare or old members for extra credit!

As for me I'll be doing my own thing for awhile. I have some injuries and personal business I must take care of. I'm still willing to show up and hang out at sessions, and I'll be back full swing soon enough. New shirts should be up by tonight!

But anyways hilary and I had a good time. This week we're going to a hockey game.
Aside from this stuff though YES ill be training with the teabm again starting tomorrow. I learned a few things on my own so I intend on showing you what I gots!
Congratulations to mystery man on the dblness. I think there will be more mystery mangs tomorrow so beware...
Plus... Stay in it. More video projects must be made!

today

I had to go to the ER, I have swollen lymph nodes. The doctor took some blood and a urine sample. Turns out I'm ok, I just have to take antibiotics for a few days. I might not train tonight because I feel a little light headed. Oh yeah, I trained outside on Saturday that was cool. Hilary and I in our spare, spare, spare time have been trying to conquer some games. I'm going to make a section on the navigational bar for our gaming journal eventually but here it is...

We'll be posting all the games we have conquered, in no particular order.

All done!

Uploading...

as expected...

The first rendered result is a failure. None of the transition effects were in the video and it was in fast forward for some odd reason.

I'm now restarting the computer and attempting a reencode.
=T

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

yes dogs:

It's encoding at the moment. It still needs to be double checked for errors, and all that other stuff. But yes, it's done and I'm pretty content with the result.

It's pretty "messy" and random. It's also very noisy and visually stimulating. There are overly obnoxious clips with awesome underlying subtle elements to it. There is so much to appreciate in this video that, viewing it only once won't do it any justice whatsoever. So please, when you give yourself a chance to watch this video please take the time to really separate yourself from whatever you're doing and give your full attention to the video. Listen carefully to everything and watch for all the random awesomeness that this video holds.
Much time was spent on filming, and capturing, and converting and all that other nonsense so doing this is the least you can do for Hilary, Devon, the rest of our FF family and I.

Most of all, I must thank Hilary for being the amazing camerawoman, trick supporter, girlfriend, and well; my overall little caretaker through this whole period. I've been coming home from work and neglecting her and some of my responsibilities to complete this project. There's been times that I left home late at night to film and train with the team, and not spend anytime with her.
=T
She's been cooking me up awesome meals and holding down the household and keeping the team together and keeping my mind focused on my projects. =)
Devon deserves a big amount of credit and praise as well. He's also responsible for hours of footage compiling and session arranging. He trains regularly and has that never ending enthusiasm for the team. He also often offers to lend a helping hand with whatever I may be having trouble with. So without saying much more, I can say that this project wouldn't have existed without him and his "fire".
He is a great guy, and it's great to have a good friend like him...

As for my other furious brothers, I must thank you guys for being that awesome eccentric bunch of guys you are! I also thank you guys for giving me respect and coming through for me when I need it. It's like whatever I ask you guys for, you guys always deliver the goods.
=)
You guys are an awesome group, and you'll always be important to me.
I know I've been through a rough stage in my life these past two years, and I must say you guys have supplied me with so much to overcome my troubles, plus you had the patience to wait it out and help me through the dilemma. None of you guys skipped out on me and that means a lot.
Devon, Justin, Ryan, Trevor, Sean, Christian, Tony, Wong, Andy, and David...
Thank you so much for being what you are and being a part of this. You guys make me proud beyond words. I can promise this year will be good for us all~

news tidbit:

I did some pretty neat editing to the video last night before going to sleep. Today I don't have anything going on when I get out of work so I'm pretty sure I can complete the video by tonight. Pl
ease keep in mind that I'll still need to render and encode the video and then upload it. If all goes well I'll supply a download link that will be good by mid day tomorrow.

shimata...

Well you know life is pretty good when a privilege feels like a chore...

I'm at work wishing I was elsewhere. At the same time glad that I have a stable well paying job.
I'm still conditioning myself and working on the ff project. I can't wait to finish it so I can get back to Hilary and clean up my pc.
On that note I want to devote a huge thanks to Hilary for being understanding of my wishes and for supporting my tricking. Also she loves the team, and made a lovely female version of the ff shirt!
She is, without a doubt the best woman in the world.

Also... Andy's newest sampler is awesome!

ANDY

Here is some Andy and FF made of blocks:

SHIET!

Its 3pm, I've been awake since 8ish am working on the new ff video. So far I have 13mins of _roughly_ edited material. I predict the video will run 16 minutes.

Its all sequenced individually so the tough part is cleverly sticking the sequences together to make it flow nice.

Man, this project sure is a pain in the ass but Im sure the team will love this!

Thursday, February 19, 2009

oh my...

The ff video is insane! Still much work must be done to it. Just know this project is king and it'll be worth the wait!

Just like after 9pm is best.
I hope you and the team and get together and do up a good session. And Devon, but of course get some good footage with your camera~

Zoookizoom for now, I'm off to edit land.

Monday, February 16, 2009

Yo guys...

I'm just letting you guys know that I'm taking a quick break from tricking for maybe a week and a half or so. I'll be getting back into it hard in early March. I want to rebuild myself, and work on my strength and flexibility.
If you still want to train at the dojo at 9pm on Mondays and Wednesdays just give me a quick call and I'll put you in contact with my father.
:)
I also have a ton of footage I'm editing at the moment so if I attend a session and record more I'll just be putting myself into a deeper hole- HAHA~
I must complete this project, currently it's going smooth...
A huge thanks to Devon for the capturing efforts!

kitteh cats

Pumpkin: She was our first cat, we got her from a co-worker of mine, because one of her cats had kittens. She could not find anyone to sell the kittens to, so she gave one to me for free. She was about 2 months old when we got her. =)
She is a polydactyl tortoishell. (a cat with a congenital physical anomaly, with more than usual number of toes on one or all of its paws as a result of a cat body type genetic mutation.)

She loves to play and hide around. She makes a lot of spaceship noises and eats a ton of food. She loves taking naps with us and sleeping with us at night. She also loves getting treats for scratching her post. And yes, she loves paper and plastic bags. She's strictly an indoor cat...

Peanut: He was our second cat we got, from the mspca. He was such a nice guy, he was a year older than Pumpkin, and very tiny. And also very quite. He developed a neurological disorder that really did a number on him, so we decided to put him down. It was really hard on us and Pumpkin... Not much more to say except he was an awesome cat, and Pumpkin's best buddy~

Nieman: We had this cat for like 2 days... He had a rough past. We thought we had the patience to deal with such a cat, but was mistaken. Pumpkin was not liking this fool too much. And often he'd hiss at her. He weighed about 30 lbs, but was running all over the apartment, making all sorts of loud noises. He would've been awesome if we had our own house, and if we didn't have another cat. But yeah, he didn't work out in our setup so I brought him back to the mspca. I really felt bad for that, but it wasn't working out. This nigga' did chinups on my clothes rack... seriously. He jumped from my bed onto the damn clothes rack, and did a full chinup-> then released and fell on his neck. It was insane!

Archimedes: He is the latest addition to our family. VERY energetic cat, very playful, greedy, but yes he is very friendly. We call him meadies or meats for short. We also got him from the mspca. He has all different kinds of noises he makes. They sound funny, sometimes he sounds like he's forming words. Him and Pumpkin play fight all the time. It took them along time to warm up to eachother, but they finally like eachother a lot. They do everything together...

Yes!

Its a celebration!
We now have a new location to train! I just got back from a session and it was good!

Mondays and Wednesdays from 9pm-until. And weekends are totally available, anytime! So if we're low on cash we can just do a session there~
If we have a crew it'll only cost us about 20 bucks for all of us, not each person.
=)

So bring some cash, but not much. Plus the Vietnamese place is right around the corner from the training spot!! =D

So yes yes yes, let us progress!
Call me for the directions and what not, I dont wanna post addresses and stuff...

Saturday, January 24, 2009

Yeah...

Originally I was going to the NY session with the Kack kids, then I backed out, then I changed my mind again. I'll be going...
=)

All you youngin's convinced me to go, I'm very touched that my presence will be appreciated that much...
Sorry to my team mates, I tried to make plans with you guys and then I kinda just, stopped contacting you guys this week. Well, I promise we'll get back at it next week. And possibly we'll have our old location back. You know, the old gym for free for as long as we want. =)
This will be good to prepare us for the warmer months. We gotta get good so we can make some sick spring and summer videos!

(This is Mike Wong and I in one of Aric's video projects. I can't wait to see what became of this stuff, we did some sick stuff that night!)

Also, Hilary is the best person in this world... Even better than Captain Planet and Hard Gay mixed! She's been supporting me and the team with everything!
She's been keeping me motivated for training and helping me with training and eating, etc. She's been holding it down and deserves all the praise in the world!

But, watch this incredible video!!

Man on Wire

I recently saw a documentary made in 2008 about the man who tightrope walked between the tops of the twin towers in 1974. Philippe Petit and a small group of friends snuck themselves, and over 500 lbs of equipment to the top of either tower of the world trade center. They rigged up a tightrope overnight and, at 7:15 in the morning "The 25-year-old Petit made eight crossings between the mostly-finished towers, a quarter mile above the sidewalks of Manhattan, in an event that lasted about 45 minutes. During that time, in addition to walking, he sat on the wire, gave knee salute and, while lying on the wire, dialogued with a gull circling above his head."
Here's the trailer for the documentary:

This is the single most motivating thing I've ever seen in my life. I recommend that every one of you watch it.
