I've used my camcorder to take tricking shots and it worked pretty decently, I think. Set the frame rate to as high as it can go and the aperture should adjust itself. Premiere pro cs3 has an option to export the selected frame as an image file- just make sure the pixel aspect ratio is 1:1 ...i think :P the resolution is pretty good, I guess- about as good as cheap 35mm film, I'd say.
